PRAXIS II and ETS

The Praxis II exam series is designed and administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). The ETS is a nonprofit educational measurement and research organization that uses surveys, skill need assessments (specifically in regards to the skills required to succeed in a particular career or school), and other similar tools to research, design, and administer exams. These exams, which include the Praxis I, the Praxis II, the GREs, and the SATs, are typically used to determine whether an individual has the knowledge needed to succeed in a college program or to work in the field of education.

The Praxis II and the ETS are both intended to help state agencies and educational institutions assess the skills of individuals interested in teaching before those individuals are actually allowed to teach. As a result, the Praxis II and other similar exams are important to both state agencies and public schools because they help these organizations ensure that each teacher has the skills necessary to be considered "highly qualified" according to the guidelines established by the state and the regulations established by the No Child Left Behind Act.
