The PRAXIS II Biology: Content Knowledge Exam is taken by candidates interested in teaching biology. The exam is composed of 75 multiple choice questions: 19 questions cover the diversity of life, plants, and animals; ; 13 questions cover basic principles of science; 12 questions cover molecular and cellular biology; 11 questions cover classical genetics and evolution; 10 questions cover ecology and science, technology, and society. Candidates have one hour to complete the exam.
The Diversity of Life, Plants and Animals section of the exam covers classifications and kingdoms. Questions cover anatomy and physiology of plants, reproductive features of plants, plant and animal evolution, organ functions, reproduction, and inherent and learned behavior.
The Basic Principles of Science section of the exam covers science in terms of its history, concepts, and methods; data analysis; mathematical applications; and correct laboratory methods.
The Molecular and Cellular Biology section of the exam covers cell structures and characteristics, chemicals linked with life forms, and molecular genetics.
The Classical Genetics and Evolution section of the exam covers Mendelian inheritance, genetic disorders, population genetics, and concepts in evolution.
The Ecology section of the exam covers energy flow, ecosystems, species communities, niches, and population-related features.
The Science, Technology, and Society section of the exam covers prenatal testing, cloning, energy use, and other issues related to science and technology ethics.
