PRAXIS II Education of Exceptional Students Core Content Knowledge Exam

The PRAXIS II Education of Exceptional Students Core Content Knowledge Exam is taken by candidates interested in teaching mildly to profoundly disabled special education students at any grade level, including preschool. The exam is composed of 60 multiple choice questions concerning delivery of services to special education students, societal and legal issues, and understanding exceptional students. Candidates have one hour to complete the exam.

The Understanding Exceptionalities section of the exam covers physical, social, and emotional development and human behavior; the category, frequency and prevalence of certain disabilities; causes of disability and preventative measures; how disabled classification affects learning; and educational theories concerning disabled students.

The Legal and Societal Issues section of the exam covers the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504, IDEA 2004, legal issues, court cases and decisions affecting disabled students, the family's role in the education of disabled student, the educator's role in the education of disabled students, the community and employer's current and future relationships with a disabled student.

The Delivery of Services to Students with Disabilities section of the exam covers the Individualized Education Plan (IEP), the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP), curriculum execution, student placement and classroom instruction, delivery of services, types of assessment, career development, computer technology applications for learning and communicating, managing the learning environment, behavior management, communicating with disabled students' parents or guardian, and the responsibilities of multidisciplinary teams.
