The PRAXIS II Education of Exceptional Students: Learning Disabilities Exam is taken by candidates interested in teaching disabled students at any grade level. The exam is composed of 30 multiple choice questions and three brief essay questions covering managing classroom situations. Candidates have e one hour to complete the exam.
The Historical and Professional Content and Basic Definitions section of the exam covers recognition of types of learning disabilities, recognition of pervasiveness of learning disabilities, medical treatments for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and other learning disabilities, IDEA 2004, professional organizations, publications and resources, fundamental theories and approaches to educating students with learning disabilities, the historical basis of education for student with learning disabilities, and the causes of learning disabilities.
The Characteristics of Individuals with Learning Disabilities section of the exam cover learning disabilities' impact on social and emotional development, academic skills, visual processing skills, and auditory processing skills; risk factors for students with learning disabilities, how learning disabilities affect attention, memory, intelligence, perception, organizational skills, information processing, and executive function.
The Delivery of Services section of the exam covers classroom management, behavior modification, student placement, curriculum, teaching strategies and methodology, and formal and informal assessments for disabled students.
