PRAXIS II Education of Exceptional Students: Mild to Moderate Disabilities Exam

The PRAXIS II Education of Exceptional Students: Mild to Moderate Disabilities Exam is taken by candidates interested in teaching special education to students with mild to moderate disabilities at any grade level. The exam consists of five brief written response questions. Candidates are given one hour to complete the exam.

The Characteristics of Learners section of the exam covers etiology; available support services; medical complications, and psychological, social, and emotional characteristics of mild to moderately disabled students at any grade level.

The Assessment section of the exam covers referral, screening, placement, assessment design, modification and application.

The Curriculum and Instruction section of the exam covers appropriate IEP creation and application; local, community, and state resources available to support program design for moderately disabled students; and curriculum selection, development, and assessment for moderately disabled students.

The Structuring and Managing the Learning Environment section of the exam covers the creation and application of behavioral modification plans, conflict resolution, and problem solving, integration of services into the educational setting, and development of a team containing appropriate personnel and family members.
