The PRAXIS II Elementary Education Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Exam is taken by candidates interested in teaching elementary grades students. The exam is comprised of 110 multiple-choice questions: 38 questions cover reading and language arts, 22 questions cover mathematics, 11 questions cover science, 11 questions cover social studies, 11 questions cover physical education and 17 questions cover curriculum instruction and student assessment. Candidates have two hours to complete the exam.
The Reading in Language Arts and Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment section of the exam covers informal and formal student assessment, the writing process, instructional methods in the teaching of reading and writing, the reading process, phonics, the acquisition of language, and elements of a successful reading curriculum.
The Mathematics Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment section of the exam covers student mathematical assessment, problem solving, theories of geometry, measurement, probability, statistics, calculator and computer usage, number theory, multiplication, division, addition and subtraction, basic enumeration, free math skills, and the elements of a successful mathematical curriculum.
The Science Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment section of the exam covers fundamental values of health education, student work, model construction and computer simulations, technological tools for students, scientific concepts and processes, scientific inquiry, and enhancing concepts and explanation.
The Social Studies Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment section of the exam covers history, geography, map competency, government, economics, social organizations, and human behavior.
The Arts and Physical Education Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment section of the exam covers applying developmentally pertinent physical education curriculum; fundamental ideas in music and art; fundamental concepts of physical education instruction; instructional approaches that enhance and support creativity; and student progress assessment in art, music and physical education.
