The PRAXIS II English Language, Literature, and Composition Essays Exam is taken by candidates interested in teaching secondary school English. Candidates have 30 minutes to complete each of the four essay questions.
The exam covers literary analysis and communication as it pertains to the study of English.
Two of the exam's essay questions ask for literary interpretations: on a poem and one on prose. A third essay question asks for rhetorical attributes pertaining to a text about the study of English. The fourth essay question assesses candidates' ability to argue a theoretical position found in the study of English, and support the argument with literature and reference materials.
