The PRAXIS II Environmental Education Exam is taken by candidates interested in teaching environmental education to Pennsylvania students in Pennsylvania. The exam consists of 140 multiple-choice questions: 25 questions cover ecology, 12 questions cover social sciences, 20 questions cover the influence of decisions on human ecological interaction, 52 questions cover the consequences of decisions on human ecological interactions, and 31 questions cover instructional methodologies. Candidates have two hours to complete the exam.
The Principles of Ecology: Free of Human Influences section of the exam covers homeostasis, succession, how matter cycles through an ecosystem, the flow of energy, environmental influences and limitations, organism interdependence and interaction, and principles concerning populations and principles.
The Relevant Principles from the Social Sciences section of the exam covers group dynamics, special interests, economic aspects, political aspects, legal aspects, cultural influences, public relations, how personal values affect decisions, philosophies, ethical positions and attitudes regarding new and developing technology, principles of organization.
The Human Ecological Interactions: Influences on Decisions section of the exam covers elements impacting human environmental decisions.
The Human Ecological Interactions: Consequences of Decisions section of the exam covers the understanding that negative effects and the resulting impact of ecological decisions may not be immediately apparent, but delayed.
The Appropriate Methodologies section of the exam covers the history of environmental education, safety and liability concerns, outdoor activities, nature centers, zoos, other environmental agencies, organizations and opportunities.
