The PRAXIS II Foreign Language Pedagogy Exam is taken by candidates interested in teaching a foreign language to Pennsylvanian students in all grades. The test consists of 55 multiple choice questions in the areas of foundations and practice, and assesses candidates' understanding of foreign language instruction methodologies, strategies, and theoretical frameworks. Competency in a specific foreign language is not tested in the exam. Candidates have one hour to complete the exam.
The Foundations portion of the exam covers linguistics, articulation, grammatical analysis, problems in pronunciation, morphology and syntax, approaches to foreign language instruction, implementation of foreign-language theories, and professional development.
The Practice section of the exam covers foreign language teaching strategies, advantages and weaknesses of foreign-language teaching strategies, foreign-language classroom approaches, and resources for foreign language instructional materials.
