The PRAXIS II French Content Knowledge Exam is taken by candidates interested in becoming first-year French instructors. The exam is comprised of 120 multiple choice questions: 23 questions cover cultural perspectives, 31 questions cover interpretive reading, 34 questions cover grammatical accuracy, 32 questions cover interpretive listening, and 31 questions cover interpretive listening. Candidates have two hours to complete the exam.
The Cultural Perspectives section of the exam covers the history, geography, literature, arts, lifestyles, and society of France and French-speaking countries.
The Interpretive Reading section of the exam covers French text and content-based questions.
The Structure of the Language (Grammatical Accuracy) section of the exam covers identification of slang, false cognates, and errors in pronunciation in audio recordings, identification and correction of written grammatical errors in punctuation, capitalization, word selection, and spelling, morphology, vocabulary, and sentence and paragraph completion.
The Interpretive Listening section of the exam features brief conversations in French followed by questions concerning phonemic discrimination, vocabulary, idioms; and content comprehension of the spoken conversations.
