The PRAXIS II French Productive Language Skills Exam is taken by candidates interested in teaching students at all grade levels. The exam is comprised of nine questions: six questions cover the candidate's oral response and three questions ask for the candidate's written response. Candidates have one hour to complete the exam.
The Presentational Speaking section of the exam contains six questions requiring verbal answers: A Brief Talk offers a scenario printed in the test booklet to which candidates will verbally respond, tailoring vocabulary and linguistic complexity to the appropriate audience. The Oral Paraphrase question requires candidates to listen to a passage in French and translate it to English without losing any meaning. Stating and Defending an Opinion asks candidates to take a position on an argument offered in the test booklet and defend it. The Giving Instructions or Picture Narration question of the exam presents a sequence of pictures in the test booklet to which candidates respond with a step-by-step explanations or instructions in French. Picture Description asks candidates for a thorough narrative in French describing a picture in the test booklet. The Role Playing question begins with a complex text scenario to which candidates' verbal response is recorded.
The Presentational Writing section of the exam covers three parts: Writing Questions requires candidates to create four questions in French. The Writing a Letter or E-mail question describes a situation in the test booklet and asks candidates to write a brief letter or email regarding it. Picture Narration requires the creation of a brief essay addressing a succession of pictures in the test booklet.
