PRAXIS II General Mathematics Exam

The PRAXIS II General Mathematics Exam is taken by candidates interested in teaching general mathematics. The test is comprised of 120 multiple choice questions: 12 questions cover exceptionalities in the mathematics program; 29 questions cover algebra I, 17 questions cover statistics, probability, and applied mathematics, 26 questions cover measurement and geometry, and 36 questions cover basic skills and math concepts. A 20-question unscored pretest is presented before these questions.

The Exceptionalities section of the exam covers student reading skills in mathematics, grade level reading deficits, students with disabilities support services, and legal concerns regarding the education of exceptional students.

The Measurement and Geometry section of the exam covers angles, points, lines, rays, polygons, segments, parts of triangles, Pythagorean theory, geometric solids, volume, perimeter, and calculation using specific instruments.

The Basic Skills and Mathematical Concepts section of the exam covers mathematics use in daily living, problem solving,, inductive and deductive reasoning, methods of computation, calculator usage, primes, factors, multiplication, addition, subtraction, division, rounding numbers, familiarity with integers, real number properties, ratios, patterns, and relationships between numbers.
