The PRAXIS II Mathematics: Pedagogy Exam is taken by candidates interested in teaching middle- and secondary level mathematics. The test is composed to three essay questions covering instruction assessment; teaching strategies and applications; and instructional planning. Candidates are permitted to use a calculator for this exam. Candidates have one hour to complete the exam.
The exam covers the interrelatedness of mathematical pedagogy, problem solving, communication and reasoning. First-year level mathematics applications are included: statistics, probability, informal geometry, informal proof, and algebra.
The exam covers designing, implementing, presenting, and reviewing classroom instruction; assessment of student work; student self assessment; depth of student comprehension; and instructional preparation prior to presenting.
