PRAXIS II Music Analysis Exam

The PRAXIS II Music Analysis Exam is taken by candidates interested in teaching music to students. The exam is comprised of three short-answer questions covering the analysis of musical scores and performance errors. Candidates have one hour to complete the exam.

The Performance Error section of the exam involves listening to a recording and identifying incorrect articulation, vocal or instrumental inflection, and mistaken interpretations of tempo with dynamic markings.

The Analysis of Musical Scores area of the exam involves listening to a recording and recognizing stylistic influences, musical concepts, anticipated performance challenges, types of ensemble, rehearsal techniques applicable to student levels, and consideration of the pieces in terms of musical concepts instruction.

Each of the two sections of the exam is equally weighted.
