The PRAXIS II Pre-Kindergarten Education Exam is taken by candidates interested in teaching prekindergarten students. The exam is comprised of 100 multiple choice questions: 50 questions cover planning, implementing, and evaluating instruction, 50 questions cover development of young children and contributions of theory to educational practices. Candidates have two hours to complete the exam.
The Planning, Implementing, and Evaluating Instruction section of the exam covers professional and legal responsibilities of the preschool teacher; classroom management; behavior issues; types, selection and implementation of student evaluations; communication between staff and family members; curriculum planning and implementation; and managing the physical learning environment.
The Development of Young Children and Contributions of Theory to Educational Practices section of the exam covers Montessori and Kamii methods, theory and curriculums; cognitive and social learning; behaviorist theories; personal, physical, social and cognitive development in preschool children.
