PRAXIS II Principles of Learning and Teaching: Grades 7-12 Exam

Thee PRAXIS II Principles of Learning and Teaching: Grades 7-12 Exam is composed of two sections. The first section is four teaching case studies followed by three brief questions each. The second section contains 24multiple choice questions. Candidates have two hours to complete the exam.

The case studies section of the exam covers students as learners, instruction and assessment, communication techniques, and profession and community. The Students as Learners section covers theories of learning and human development, learning styles and disabilities, classroom management, learning environment, and student motivation. The Instruction and Assessment section covers teaching methodologies, learning styles, teaching materials, creating lesson plans, assessment, and grading. The Communication Techniques section covers verbal and nonverbal communication in a classroom teaching and learning. The Profession and Community section of the exam covers educator resources and educator functions outside the classroom.

The case study section of the exam scored 0 to 2. Responses receiving a 2 are thoroughly and thoughtfully answered, and exhibit excellent understanding of the subject. Responses scored with a 0 have been left blank or have been completely misinterpreted.

The Students as Learners and the Instruction and Assessments sections of the exam are each worth 33% of the total score. Teacher Professionalism is worth 22%, and Communication Techniques 11% of the total exam.
