PRAXIS II Principles of Learning and Teaching: Grades K-6 Exam

The PRAXIS II Principles of Learning and Teaching: Grades K-6 Exam is made up of two sections - the first section covers four teaching scenarios followed by three short-answer questions and 24 multiple choice questions make up the second section. Candidates have two hours to complete the exam.

The teaching scenarios section of the exam covers Students as Learners; Instruction and Assessment; Communication Techniques; and Profession and Community. The Students as Learners section of the exam covers theories in learning and human development; styles of learning; learning disabilities; managing the learning environment; and supporting student motivation. The Instruction and Assessment section covers teaching methodologies; learning styles; teaching materials; lesson plans; evaluation; and grading. The Communication Techniques section covers ways verbal and nonverbal communication contributes to classroom instruction and learning. The Profession and Community section covers educator resources and roles outside the classroom.

The Teaching Scenarios sections of the exam are scored 0-2. A score of 2 means the question has been thoroughly answered and demonstrates excellent understanding. Responses scored with '0' have been left blank or have been completely misinterpreted.

The Students as Learners and the Instruction and Assessments sections of the exam are each worth 33% of the total score. The Teacher Professionalism section is worth 22% of the total score, and the Communication Techniques section is worth 11%.
