The PRAXIS II Social Studies: Analytical Essays Exam is taken by candidates interested in teaching secondary level social studies. This is a two essay exam: one question covers contemporary issues or an aspect of world history and the second question covers contemporary issues or American history. Candidates have one hour to complete the exam.
Candidates take a position and argue that side of the issue, synthesize a body of knowledge, or compare or contrast elements between the two. Each question can contain one or more than one of the following topics: economics, geography, political science, government, civics, world history, American history, psychology, anthropology, or sociology.
For the contemporary issues or American history question, American diversity of race, culture, and gender in relationship to Asia, Africa, Latin America or Oceania may be covered and one question will utilize material from a quotation, written excerpt, cartoon, diagram, graph, table, or map.
