The PRAXIS II Spanish: Content Knowledge Exam is taken by candidates interested in teaching beginning Spanish. The exam contains 120 multiple choice questions: 20 questions cover Cultural Perspectives, 31 questions cover Interpretive Reading, 34 questions cover Language Structure; 32 questions cover Interpretive Listening. Candidates have two hours to complete the exam.
The Cultural Perspectives section of the exam is entirely in Spanish and covers geography, history, literature, the arts, social networks, lifestyles, Spanish grammar and vocabulary.
The Interpretive Reading section of the exam is based on Spanish text representing a range of complexity to which candidates respond in Spanish. Questions cover the texts' use of language, implied content, organization, and meaning.
The Language Structure section of the exam covers Spanish grammar, language, writing, and speech. Candidates complete sentences by choosing the appropriate word or phrase, demonstrate reading competency with vocabulary, word analysis, morphology and linguistic structure, identify, describe and correct grammatical, spelling, punctuation and word choice errors in a text. Candidates listen to Spanish recordings and demonstrate competency with spoken Spanish by identifying false cognates, pronunciation errors, idioms and slang, stress errors, and word choice errors.
The Interpretive Listening section of the exam presents candidates with recordings of brief narratives, conversations, and monologues from native Spanish speakers. Questions covering the vocabulary and structures of conversational Spanish, comprehension of cultural information in spoken material, idiomatic expressions and phonemic discrimination comprise the exam.
