The PRAXIS II Teaching Students with Orthopedic Impairments Exam is taken by special education teachers who are interested in working with orthopedically impaired students. There are 130 multiple choice questions: 33 questions cover Professional Relationships, 39 questions cover Planning and Implementation of Instruction, 13 questions cover Legal Issues, 26 questions cover the Impact of Disabilities on Development, and 19 questions are an Overview of this topic. Candidates have two hours to complete the exam.
The Professional Relationships section of the exam assesses understanding of all components of professional relationships with students, parents, physicians, nurses, psychologists, guidance counselors, and other professionals, as well as governmental and local community agencies.
The Planning and Implementation of Instruction section of the exam contains questions about instructional methods, modifications, behavior management, technology, student motivation, learning styles, assessment, placement, IEPs, and career goals.
The Legal Issues section of the exam covers ethics, least restrictive environment, PL 94-142and other pertinent legislation, court cases, and legal decisions that have fundamentally impacted students with impairments.
The Impact of Disabilities on Development section exam covers emotional, social, physical, cognitive, interpersonal, and language development, and how they may impact a disabled students' motivation or ability to learn.
The Overview exam covers orthopedic impairments, special education, the musculoskeletal system, disabling orthopedic conditions, and medical and technical characteristics of orthopedic disabilities. This section also reviews genetics, communication, and the legal definitions and ramifications of this type of disability.
